Lingerie Francaise Exhibition
Whether you are looking to escape the extreme weather conditions or an excuse for a fun ladies night, mark your calendars for one of the most anticipated exhibits to come to Tokyo. After making pit stops in major cities such as Paris, London, Shanghai, Dubai, and New York, the Lingerie Francaise Exhibition, showcasing the expertise of French design and creativity, is on it’s way to Tokyo!
The Batsu Gallery in Shibuya will host the lingerie retrospective also coined,”the traveling exhibit” which displays archival lingerie from 11 renowned French lingerie manufacturers such as AUBADE, BARBARA, CHANTELLE, EMPREINTE, IMPLICITE, LISE CHARMEL, LOU, MAISON LEJABY, PASSIONATA, PRINCESSE TAM.TAM, and SIMONE PÉRÈL.
Corsetiers, design historians and the “La Petite Histoire” agency have collaborated in assembling a 130 piece collection of lingerie inventions, presented in a chronological sequence, and retracing designs from the early 19th century until today’s innovations.
Curator and fashion history connoisseur, Catherine Ormen molded this exhibit to celebrate the intricate details of French design techniques, from luxe fabrication treatments to mili-metric precision to the 20-30 pattern pieces needed just to make up a single bra.
The pieces are presented thematically, Beginning in the 1800’s with corsets and garters introduced just before the First World War and flowing through the 1950’s and 60’s when nylon, transparency and new shapes were introduced. The bodysuit is celebrated in the 1980’s followed by technological advances such as contouring the bust lines and shape wear created in the 1990’s. The show continues with haute couture pieces and tomorrow’s design innovations. Accompanying the garments are films, photos and old advertisement video installations used to further enhance the story.
