Cozy Cardigans and Cashmere

Wednesday, September 28, 2011
With the cool weather creeping up on us I am slowing bringing down all of my Cardigans and Cashmere from the closet. For some reason I felt a bit nostalgic. Longing for the smell of pumpkin spice lattes, Vanilla scented candles and cozying up on the couch with great wine and a RomCom. Oh Fall, How I love you.

I am excited to find new Looks for my Cardigans and Cashmere this Fall and Winter. One would assume to use the basics as supplemental pieces to an already comfortable outfit. However, I think the sweaters would look amazing styled with heavy textiles like suede, tweed, and leather. Mixing the textures will create a dynamic look and generate a refined but not relaxed outfit.

*Style Examples: See the texture options at the bottom
1.) pair a soft sweater with suede shorts, boots, costume jewelry and a Berét.
2.) Layer under a tweed blazer, flared denim, and the new sky high loafer.
3.) Style over a long sleeve tee with leather leggings, rider boots and big earrings.

Below is a Cashmere story I styled .. So soft so sweet :)

OPTIONAL STYLING PIECES

Dressing up a Jumpsuit Day to Night

Monday, September 26, 2011

I know there is not a huge fan base for the infamous Jumpsuit. However, I am a huge enthusiast and believe when styled correctly they look polished and super chic. I spotted this red floral printed number in TopShop and went for it. I loved the Asian influence of the print and the overall silhouette.  I look at a Jumpsuit the same way I see a Sheath dress or a basic LBD, as an empty canvas. With different accessory combinations it is a quick and easy transition from Day to Night.

Exchange the handbag and jacket for more structured pieces, switch out the flats for heels, glam up the jewelry and add some color with a great lipstick. Ta-Da :)

Calm After the Storm

Wednesday, September 21, 2011

Yesterday through last night Tokyo and many other parts of Japan were hit with a Typhoon. I woke up early this morning thinking the skies would be a dark gray hue, the streets would be soaked and debris everywhere. Instead, I woke up to this beauty. I wanted to share a few pics I snapped of the gorgeous color combos and interesting cloud arrangements.

Similar to my Sunset Post awhile back, I find so much inspiration in the colors. Maybe another favorite color should be called After the Storm.

Cut Outs and a taste of Tuxedo

A few posts back I posted pics from Behind the Scenes of a Cut Out Concept shoot I had styled. I received the final images and they are amazing! In collaboration with the Cut Out project, I also pulled looks playing on the Tuxedo Trend that is all the rage this Fall. I paired structured blazers with feminine bottoms, allowing the overall look to come within reach of masculinity however remain sexy and ladylike.

*My styling tip would be to limit your look to one menswear piece to prevent a full out androgynous get-up.

I worked with an all Japanese crew, English was limited and I tried my best with my Japanese. Regardless of our language barrier we were able to get some fantastic images.

Photographer Fukishimasan is a well known photographer around Tokyo. He executed the desired lighting perfectly.

Make-up artist Mayumi Sugawa really facilitated the mood and attitude that we had hope to capture in the images. Taking the look from natural and minimal to a sleek and polished.

Rachel Roy Spring 2012

Thursday, September 15, 2011
NYFW has been in full force and as a little puppy peering through the window, I am loving everything I see! Thank you twitter, bloggers and fashion media that allow all of us around the world to live vicariously and see what beautiful collections our favorite designers are debuting for Spring 2012. Speaking of twitter, I can't help but follow one of my designer crushes, Rachel Roy. I have been a fan since she first debuted and have purchased many of her pieces from her diffusion line for Macy's. She has been tweeting non stop with pics of her Spring 2012 collection and I have been biting my lip in excitement every time I check my social media updates on the train.

For Spring 2012 she implemented Masculine pieces without completely defying femininity and stayed true to her refined simplicity. I love the black and white pieces that exude an Asian influence as well as her tailored trousers, floor length dresses and floral printed garments with structured lines. Bravo to Miss Rachel Roy.

A tale of two Worlds- Behind the Scenes

Tuesday, September 13, 2011
Once again, I had an amazing shoot with Miss World, Maya Murofushi. She and photographer, Donovan Jones came up with such a relevant and interesting concept I couldn't say no. The styling for this shoot is up there with my favorites. I don't want to give away the idea of the shoot just yet, I'll hold off until I post the final images. Can you guys take a guess? What do you think the story is behind this shoot? Here are some behind the scenes shots of our editorial story.......

Surrealist Sanctuary Exhibit

Saturday, September 10, 2011

Tokyo has an amazing and diverse Art scene. I do my best to keep track of all the new exhibits and galleries that spark my interest. I have passion for all forms of Art, but recently I am fixated on photography. Maybe because I am currently studying a bit of photography and I can now appreciate all of the details and different aspects needed to create an amazing image.

Recently a gal pal and I attended the opening of an exhibit for the famous Benjamin Lee. Please check out his extensive resume here. His images have not only graced the spreads of multiple high fashion magazines, but he has been praised for a number galleries all over the globe and famous for his interest in Surrealism.

His most recent exhibit called "The Escalating Imagination", was full of images he shot in Mexico at the residence of  late Sir Edward James. James was a British heir who was said to have the finest collection of Surrealist paintings privately owned, which he kept at his home in Las Pozas, Mexico. Benjamin's photographs of the Surrealist Sanctuary, were hung along the walls of a private dining club in Yurakucho, Tokyo. The party included art enthusiasts, bloggers, journalists, and multiple employees of the Mexican Embassy whom facilitated Benjamin's travels and access to the Surrealist paintings.  Endless amounts of Mexican cuisine and cocktails were served as we enjoyed his portraits and pictures while listening to his journey through Mexico.
