The Way We Sunday

Monday, October 24, 2016

Sundays.. OH baby, Sundays. All around the world people "Sunday" differently, but collectively it's an agreement to rest, play, worship, be with family, and do the things you love. Football Sunday's in America were one of the selling points to come back home. The atmosphere, food, and energy the day encompasses dig deep to the core of our childhood memories, reminiscent of a holiday. We've started our own pregame ritual by going to Central Park and running the cubs to expel all of their pent-up, "apartment kid", energy. We pack the stroller with balls, blankets, really the entire apartment, and head to Sheep's Meadow. I couldn't ask for a better urban back yard. The kids run the entirety of the expansive green space, we picnic, play sports and then typically head to Tavern on the Green for a few bevies before the game. David steady checks the scores on his phone, I bitch he's on his phone, repeat, and then we go home for all the beautiful football nostalgia we've yearned. It never fails that the kids still go 0-100 and tear up the house like a bunch of frat kids, but we relish in Americana Sundays. I cook, they watch,  and David paces and yells. LOVE IT! I love being H.O.M.E.

P.S GO SEAHAWKS!

Barton Orchards and Farms

Sunday, October 16, 2016

We finally made it to a pumpkin patch! I think it was the first time for all of us to go to an actual pumpkin farm. We were all pumped, and it was a gorgeous weekend to get out of the city and explore the countryside. Apologies for the picture haul in this post, I went snap crazy and was acting all "brand new". In our defense, it was brand new. No pumpkin patches in Tokyo man.

My friend recommended  Barton Orchards and Farms up in Poughquag, NY.  David rented a ZIP CAR and it only took us about 1.25 hrs from Midtown. Painless. Once we reached the edge of the city, it was as if we drifted into Monet's "Autumn Effect at Argenteuil". David and I were geeking out about the foliage, it was so expansive and dramatic, surreal scenic eye candy the whole way up.

The farm was above our expectations. Apart from apple picking and pumpkin patches, the grounds included bouncy pads, tractor rides, corn maze, a tap room (chyea! mommy juice refueled), petting zoo, and all kids of dirt and hay for Zae Zae to eat up.

It was the perfect destination with kids, and super easy to get to from Manhattan. All of the farms I had researched throughout the week, disclaimed they would have large crowds and to prepare for lines. Although, there were plenty of people at the farm, it did not feel crowded at all. The enormity of the premises made it feel very intimate. We even played soccer and had a picnic.

All of the details for BARTON FARMS AND ORCHARDS EVENTS are listed HERE! Happy Sunday EVERYONE! Time to cheer on the SEAHAWKS! (I don't watch, just cheer, drink wine and cook.)

Mauve on to the Rooftop

Friday, October 14, 2016

Last night, we hung out on the newly renovated, Empire Hotel Rooftop. I stumbled upon the hotel entrance after 12 blocks in stiff heels, and not one more step to give. A friend had mentioned it, I saw it, walked in, and loved the vibe immediately. A great place for cocktails with the girls, date night and the bites were good too.

I have been slowly collecting a lot of earth tone pieces in grey, mauve and beige. Keeping with solids gives me so much more variety in my wardrobe. I recently did a massive detox of my closet (blog post to come), so I am down to the bare essentials. I love being able to mix and match, and a bevy of neutral pieces allow me to quickly pull an outfit together in the morning! I am out of the house the majority of the day, so with one eye open and a half eaten banana in my hand, I need the easiest, most basic styling. I also am a fan of pairing menswear inspired separates with sexier clothing. This Rag and Bone blazer is fitted to be oversized and structured, so it balanced out the tight, lace up top.

It was great to get out with hubs, talk shop, compare notes on what we love about New York and miss about Tokyo. Now we have a new spot to add to our little, but growing, places we love in the neighborhood.

Hang Out in H&M Kids

Wednesday, October 12, 2016

It's been a random week. Columbus Day was off , and today we're off for Yom Kippur. I live by a routine, but wingin' it every once in awhile feels good. However, living in an apartment with toddlers = get the F outside when it's nice, raining, or even a small hurricane. By 8AM every morning my living room is a vomit pile of throw pillow, Legos, Shopkins, and half eaten apples. To quote my mom "I can't have anything nice!". Hey mom, I feel you, bro! I'm pretty sure my son just took a ball point pen to my new couch, but that's another blog. Thank God for the playroom in the building, I throw them in and let the Wild Things roar their terrible roars and gnash their terrible teeth on everything and anything other than Mommy's ankles.

Anyway, as with my interior fashions, I can't put my kids in anything "too" nice, or it's literally putting berry stained $100 bills down a paper shredder. H&M is the price and performance destination for my kids. Maya's been rocking it since a newborn, and Mommy considers the clothing to be durable, economical, and on trend. The collections are super cute, and not embossed with clowns, trains and cartoon motifs, (I buy that sh*t too), I'm just saying.

Maybe by my tone you can tell I had a bit of a "DAY". We all have those, we aren't always in control, sometimes the kids test every inch of patience during their tantrums, whining and blatant rebellions. Nonetheless, they roar their adorable roars and gnashed those cheeky, baby teeth and I melt into a puddle of MommyHood bliss and buy them Starburst.

Despite the hiccups, we love our explorations and the cubs were too cute in their H&M get ups. Links to OUTFIT details at the bottom!

If you don't already, follow my INSTAGRAM @CHANYNCK, and bear with me and all the site changes in the coming months. Happy Humpday!
