Souk Shopping in DUBAI

Konnichiwa! Hisashiburi :)

Now that Fashion Week is over I can get back to my Dubai posts.

One of my favorite days was spent at the Souks in Old Dubai, an area called Deira. The Gold Souk was fascinating and I now understand why Dubai has been stamped "The City of Gold." Make sure to wear your sunglasses when walking down the rows of endless bling as it blinds you from the store-front windows.  I started from the beginning and walked all the way to the end, window shopping, drooling over the amazing pieces of solid Gold and would often pop in and try on a few chunky bracelets and necklaces.

PASHMINAS, SHOES AND A BIT OF HAGGLING

In between the Gold Shops were little alleys lined with tiny stores that sold pashminas and hand-made shoes. I had a great time trying on all the different pashminas and haggling with the store clerk. After my purchase, I asked him to tie the scarf traditionally around my head which I kept that way the rest of the day. I tried on the shoes, and although I love the idea of wearing hand-made shoes from Dubai; I looked more like Santa's helper than indulging in risky fashion.

SPICE UP YOUR LIFE at the Spice SOUK

Of course we made our way to the famous Spice Souk. It is not hard to find as the pungent aromas can be smelled from blocks away. The narrow alley is filled literally from the ground floor to the tops of doorways with barrels of various spices. We loaded up on a variety of pepper, saffron, and a randon mix the clerk put together to help with my allergies :) Let's hope it works.

Have a great week! Please check back for more Dubai attractions and Fashion :)

Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Tokyo Closing Party

Monday, October 24, 2011

We celebrated the end of Fashion Week at the closing party inside Mercedes Cafe across from Midtown.
We mingled with the familiar faces whom we crossed paths with all week as well as loads of new fashionistas. I played paparazzi for a little bit, snapping pics of a woman's amazing Victoria Beckam dress, and another woman's In Your Face tattoo... "OK OK I'll leave geeez.."

The festivities really started when all of our close friends graced us with their presence!

Sayonara Fashion week!

Christian DADA-Tokyo Fashion Week

After leaving the SOMARTA show we raced over to Shibuya to catch the edgy and young, Christian Dada collection. Fashion week first-timer, Masanori Morikawa's showed the labels second collection since launching.

Upon entering I fell in love with the stage layout as well as the dark lighting which remained for the entirety of the show; allowing the models to walk in and out of darkness to a spotlight on the edge of a square-shaped runway.

At times I felt as if I were watching theater rather than a new Spring/Summer collection. The young and extremely creative designer mixed art with fashion, bringing in many props and creating a sense of gloom. By far my favorite production of Fashion week. The fashion itself also looked a bit Gothic. To get a better idea of the collection please check out the images HERE. At the end of the set I couldn't help but compare the model in the white dress and the following models in black to The Black Swan.

Afterward, I shared my enthusiasm for the show with Brazilian Vogue editor and a lovely girl with the best hat I had seen all night.

SOMARTA- Tokyo Fashion Week

After checking out the opening for Armani Exchange in Harajuku, I jetted off to the SOMARTA show back in  Midtown.

I didn't know what to expect from the Japanese brand, but I had definitely heard the buzz surrounding former Issey Miyake designer, Tamae Hirokawa, and was excited to see the collection. The creative inspiration for the line came from birds which was easier to detect in the hair and make-up. The collection comprised of geometric patterns in various colors and styles, uniquely cut dresses, blazers, and their signature body suit. I enjoyed the futuristic energy of the show and was fascinated by the hair stylist's work. KUDOS to the entire crew.
