 SNEAK PEEK :

Beating the Humidity

The Tokyo humidity is turning down for no one. How is one supposed to cycle, walk or even train through the city without wearing clothes only a hot yoga studio would welcome? We’d much rather get on with our day, than play musical shirts every morning. Right? That’s why I  put together a few easy tips on staying chic in the heat for SavvyTokyo.com.  With help from lightweight fabrics and loose-fitting silhouettes, these no-brainer styles will have you looking put-together and feeling less like a sidewalk scramble.

Tokyo Fashion Week Photo Diary

Tuesday, April 14, 2015

Just about 6 weeks after giving birth to Isaiah, Tokyo Fashion Week commenced. I had a very speedy recovery this time around and didn't want to miss out on the excitement of one of the best fashion weeks in the world. I spent a lot of time pumping and rushing home in cabs, but I had an amazing time working for Savvy Tokyo. Below is a few pics from my week of Japanese Fashion and fun and links to all the reviews that were posted on SavvyTokyo.com.

Coincidentally I matched the Sretis invitation

I love the way Japanese fashionistas go out on a limb and put so much effort into the styling.

Konnichiwa WORLD

Sunday, March 1, 2015

The weeks have seriously flown by. I delivered my little angel on January 30th, just two days after big sister turned two years old. As any other mother can attest, you find yourself lost in wonderland with a newborn. I've spent the past month bonding with my new boy, snuggling in bed with my two munchkins and adjusting to a new routine.

I have only given birth abroad and have no idea what it is like to have a baby in the USA. Pain management is very rare in the Japanese culture, and the "strength" expectations put on mother's is overestimated, (in my humble opinion).  My first delivery was a "unique" experience. A lot of screaming from me, laughing from the nurses, and concluding with a personally oath of never, ever giving birth abroad again. Two years later and I am in the exact same labor and delivery room, expecting the worst, yet ending with a  completely opposite experience. It's all about setting your expectations as low as possible people, then it's all uphill!  I now feel like a Baby birthing Sensei and it is all second nature to me at this point:

Language Barrier: CHECK
Healthcare Confusion: CHECK
City Hall Paperwork Madness: CHECK
American Embassy Trips: CHECK

and the list goes on.. However, I wouldn't change anything about this adventure. How awesome that my babies can grow up and say, "I was born in Tokyo and they wrapped me up in a kimono at two minutes old." KONNICHIWA WORLD!

Here are some photos taken when ISAIAH DAVID was just one week old.

Harajuku Toddler

Tuesday, January 20, 2015

My daughter is getting to the age where she feels the need to dress herself and voice her "styling" requests. "No, red shoes mommy!", "Mom, where my hat go?".
This day she insisted on sporting her Christmas pea coat and how dare a button go unbuttoned! I love this age and her spunky personality blossoms more and more everyday. Although she is not the best shopping companion (pulling everything with sequins off the racks), I have fun walking around the shopping districts and people watching with my jazzy little Harajuku Toddler.

Year of the Sheep

Tuesday, January 13, 2015
BAA BAA! Happy Year  2015 and year of the Sheep! Traditionally, hundreds of thousands of Japanese people and  Japan residents head to the shrines to make wishes for the upcoming year. To avoid the masses, we've made our own tradition of heading to the shrine on New Year's Eve. Meiji shrine is one of the most popular and beautiful (in my humble opinion) shrines in Tokyo. It's located in the heart of the city, just adjacent to Harajuku. You are greeted with immaculate tori gates and a loose gravel path, which guide you passed gorgeous sake barrels, making your way to the temple.

I never tire of Tokyo and all of it's beautiful gems! Wishing everyone a prosperous, healthy and successful NEW YEAR!

Merry Christmas from Tokyo

Sunday, January 4, 2015
A very Merry Christmas from my family to yours! I can't believe we will be embarking on our 5th year here in Tokyo. Time goes incredible fast, I am so thankful for my expanding family and loved ones across the globe!

A mantra we have lived by and continue to be inspired:

"Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines, sail away from the safe harbor. Catach the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover." - Mark Twain
