Tokyo Fashion Week- Public Events

One of Tokyo’s biggest fashion festivals is descending upon us.  To some it may seem that everyday in Tokyo is a fashion celebration, hello perfectly coiffed manes, immaculate styling and sky high heels, but two weeks out of the year Japan Fashion Week Organization presents a week long series of runway shows and exhibitions, promoting Japan’s top designers and showing the world why Tokyo has the best street-style to date. Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Tokyo will be held March 17^th -22^nd, taking place primarily at Shibuya’s Hikarie building. If you frequent the neighborhood, odds are you’ll get a glimpse of editors, buyers, and bloggers hustling to and from shows, surveying collections and reporting the trends we can expect to see in Fall/ Winter 2014.

Fashion insiders aren’t the only ones who get to partake in the festivities. A number of events open to the public will occur parallel to the big runway shows, allowing any enthusiast to be apart of the city’s’ fashion fête.  Check out an exhibition, try on the newest trends in accessories, sip on fashion inspired cocktails, hit up a few pop up shops, or visit Shibuya’s largest department stores for special events and promotions. Have fun exploring the culture of one of the world’s largest fashion hubs.

Inspired By Balmain

I guess Balmain is really worth all the Hype, at least I think so. Some think his collection lacked inspiration with the army of cargo pants and safari enthused separates that were sent down the runway. The silhouettes in Olivier Rousteing's 2014 Fall/Winter collection, were the standard sexy frames to flatter most figures. Cinched waists, a-line skirts and peplum, why reinvent the wheel? Maybe I just loved this collection because it was reminiscent of a glamorized, vintage JLO circa 2003-2004.  Maybe I threw on a newsboy hat and busted out to "Jenny from the Block" in the mirror, judge me. I think this collection was beyond inspiring, at least it  motivated me to throw on a one-piece denim jumpsuit and the biggest gold hoops I can find.

New Zealand X TOKYO

 I recently worked on a project with New Zealand based photographer, Emily Hlavac Green. Our concept of merging New Zealand designer-wear with Tokyo's urban sprawl was executed magnificently and the images turned out DOPE!  Check out our editorial spread featured on LA/NY based publication,LADYGUNN, and see some on my favorite images from the shoot below.
