Tokyo is great, but it is nice to get out of dodge on the weekends. This summer I've been escaping to a little paradise just a few hours outside of the city on the Southern tip of the Izu Peninsula, called Shimoda.
It's our little "Jersey Shore", sans all of the trashy stuff.. :)
Beach days are the best days. Post up on the white sand, take a dip in the emerald green sea and engage in all the fav beach activities.
Hungry? Walk a block off the beach and you can enjoy wood fired pizzas.
The terrain allows you to feel as if you are in the middle of the jungle. We spend the evenings BBQing, and cooking with the herbs from the garden next door.
Sunday we are back to the hustle and bustle of Toks, but still get a taste of the beach on the Shinkansen with a water view the the majority of the way home.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shimoda,_Shizuoka
